ORIENTAL RUG WASHING
"Where have YOU been?"
Where have you been? We're glad you found us. You will soon be glad also! For many years, the best way to clean the family rug, which was often passed down from generation to generation, was to beat it with the same beat-stick you used on your husband. ; ) And ancient Persians used to lay their rugs in shallow streams and let the cool water flow through, gently cleansing them.
Today, Cleancare still uses those same general principles to clean fine woven rugs. There are thousands of knots in an Oriental rug and they all hold tightly to impacted dirt. So the first step is to remove all of that dry particulate soil (sometimes pounds of it) before we add any moisture to the process. Instead of rug-beater stick, we use a machine called a rug duster (pictured below left) to knock the soil out. We place your rug face down on top of a wire grid to get it off the floor and capture the falling dirt. This machine produces 40,000 harmonic vibrations per minute on the back of the rug from 50 vibro straps. It simply vibrates the dirt right out.

So, why do we go to the trouble of knocking out the dirt first? The answer lies in the knots. No amount of water will free most of that dirt locked in each individual woven knot. And vacuuming alone simply won't do the job. In addition, if we placed an un-dusted rug into our rug tub, it would create a pool of mud, and a slimy film of mud on your finished rug. In the picture above right, you can see how much dirt was knocked out with rug dusting when we lifted the rug and wire grid off of the floor. And this is even after a pre-vacuuming of the rug surface prior to rug dusting!
Gentle scrubbing with pH balanced products
After dusting, we spray your rug with a clear, cool water and then use soft brushes on a rotary machine to gently scrub the fibers with a pH balanced cleaning solution. This loosens all water soluble stains, spills, pet urine and dingy looking stuck-in-gunk and separates it all from the rug fibers so it may be washed away in the proceeding step.
Much like the ancient Persians and their river washing, we then place your rug into our cool water wash tub for rinsing. A constant stream of cool , clear water constantly flows through your rug as we use soft hand brushes to work out all cleaning materials, stains, pet urine and sludge as it all flows right down the stream and out of your rug.

Rug spinner centrifuge removes water
After getting a thorough clean rinse, we then need to get your your rug dry. Persians used to simply place their rugs on riverbank rocks in the hot sun to dry them. Twenty first century tech has given us a tremendous tool that substantially shortens dry times. The machine at left is called a centrifuge rug spinner. Your wet-washed rug is rolled up and placed into the rug spinner. The centrifuge spins the rug rapidly and separates the water from the rug with great centrifugal force. Your rug is now in only a damp state at this stage. Since we want to avoid any rug stretching, we do not hang rugs on drying racks. Instead, we "flat-dry" your rug on a platform with air movers blowing underneath to completely dry your rug and retain rug size and shape continuity (Right).
